Our 2024 Autumn Term starts on Tuesday 10th September! Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays, 7-8.20pm, at our regular venue, Morden Mount Primary School (please see Term Dates for more details). If you are a new singer and would like to join us, please get in touch to say hello and to ask us any questions. Alternatively, feel free to just turn up. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Quaggy Community Choir is a fun and sociable choir that meets in between Lewisham and Greenwich at Morden Mount Primary School on Tuesday evenings during term time. Founded in Spring 2017 by local musicians Jake Alexander and Priya Bose, our aim was to create a multi-genre ensemble that would be open to all voices, where everybody would be warmly welcomed regardless of ability or experience. With this is mind, our musical arrangements are written exclusively by our musical director with ease and accessibility being the topmost priorities. However, don’t be fooled by our approachability – when we sing together we create something very special; a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
As a candle needs darkness to shine, we believe that the raw power of the human voice is best experienced in its purest form. Thus, most of our singing is done a cappella, and when we do employ accompaniment, we use only live instrumentation.
Most of our singers are from the Lewisham/Greenwich area. However, we have members from all across South East London and beyond. We’re proud of our diversity and inclusivity, and always do our best to allow everyone to participate. We are passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of the local community, and hope that our choir will go some way towards reducing isolation by giving people new opportunities to participate in a rewarding and enriching activity. We firmly believe that music has the capacity to make a difference.
Quaggy Community Choir registered as a Community Interest Company in May 2019, and we are generously supported by Lewisham Local, and the National Lottery Communities Fund.
We’d love for you to join us!
